Horizon Dental is Covering Charges for PPE So You Don’t Have To

As in-person care returns to dental practices across New Jersey, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – like masks, gloves, and face shields – is critical to keeping our dental members and their in-network dental professionals safe.

Beginning July 1, 2020, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) will reimburse in-network dental professionals $10 per patient to cover the costs of PPE used during a visit. Horizon dental members will face no additional charges and in-network dental professionals may not balance bill Horizon Dental members for any costs associated with PPE.

FOR IN-NETWORK DENTAL PROVIDERS: CDT code D1999 will be temporarily considered reimbursable for in-network dental professionals for the costs associated with PPE through September 30, 2020, unless extended. Horizon BCBSNJ will authorize $10 for CDT code D1999 when submitted once per patient, per date of service and per provider.

If you are a dental professional and have questions about this change or how to appropriately submit claims for PPE, please refer to the ADA guidelines.
