Allen J. Karp has joined Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey in the position of senior vice president of healthcare management the company announced today. Mr. Karp will have oversight responsibility for Horizon BCBSNJ's health affairs and clinical operations, pharmacy program, physician and hospital networks management, and Horizon Healthcare Innovations."Allen's significant health care experience, particularly in building and managing provider networks, and his innovative approach to health care delivery models will help Horizon lead a transformation away from fee-for-service and toward a better system that rewards doctors and hospitals for quality and cost effective care that improves patient outcomes and their overall health care experience," said Kevin P. Conlin, executive vice president of Horizon BCBSNJ.Allen has more than 30 years of experience in the health care industry, including senior leadership positions with Coventry, Aetna, and MedPartners Inc. At Coventry, Allen served as senior vice president of its national network and the development of the company's ACO and high performance network strategy. He has implemented over 20 ACOs and numerous innovative reimbursement models with hospitals and physicians. At Aetna, Allen held the position of vice president of healthcare delivery, where he developed regional and national network strategy, and managed provider contracting, clinical operations and medical economics.
