(Newark – December 20, 2016) -- Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) has created the new positon of Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer the company announced today. Assuming the role is David Gambino who joined Horizon BCBSNJ on December 19, 2016. He will report directly to Allen Karp, Senior Vice President, Healthcare Management.

“Dave has more than 35 years of health care experience with extensive experience in pharmacy operations and strategic development in both hospital and retail pharmacy operations,” said Karp. “In this newly created position, Dave will be responsible for our Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid pharmacy operations.”

Mr. Gambino joins Horizon BCBSNJ from Via Christi Health where he was Chief Strategy Officer. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Alegent Health. Mr. Gambino received a Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy from Wayne State University and Master of Science Administration, Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University.
